What is it for? Flare pilots are often monitored with thermocouples, but they often fail due to thermal shock caused by extreme heat and vibrations during flaring events. The requirement for pilot monitoring beyond the normal life of pilot thermocouples has driven the market need for alternative methods, which requires installation of a redundant method of pilot monitoring to back up the standard pilot thermocouples.

E2 Technologies (E2T) was founded in Ventura, California in 1974 and has been well recognized in the petrochemical industry for more than 40 years. E2T is known as a specialist in the Sulfur Furnace Temperature (SRU) application.
Mikron Infrared acquired E2 Technologies in 2002, which enabled Mikron to further solidify its presence as a major supplier in the non-contact point temperature measurement market and significantly strengthen its competitive position. LumaSense continues to offer solutions for SRU applications and high temperature furnace applications as well as flare pilot monitoring.
Mikron E2T designed the M7000SR Series for continuous and instantaneous measurement of Refractory Temperature (RT), Gas Temperature (GT), and Integrated Temperature (FF) in the vessel away from the heat, vibration, and corrosive gases. The M7000SR paved the way for today’s E2T Quasar M8100 Flare Pilot Monitor.
E2T started offering the PULSAR for SRU monitoring in the late 1970’s and LumaSense introduced the latest PULSAR product last year. The PULSAR 4 reports both gas and refractory temperatures measurements simultaneously and corrects for Flame Transparency errors with our proprietary Flame Measurement Algorithm (FMA).
